Snowshoeing..... where do I begin. It was a long day of walking around in the cold and snow, wearing far more layers than I have worn in a very long time. We left for the bus to Salève at one in the afternoon. After a pretty quick bus ride, we arrived. Of course, arriving simply meant getting to the town. We still had to walk for a little while in order to get to the cable car. We got our special snowshoeing boots and poles. And then it was cable car time. And boy, was that slightly terrifying. But, after that experience, it was time for the hike. And boy was I unprepared for what I would experience.
Of course I got the boots that did not want to stay nice and tight. Which meant I was close to the back for a while. The first half of the journey was a lot of uphill. It is very easy to get dehydrated that way, and I was close to the point of possibly fainting. Thank god for swiss chocolate, which the head of our program brought. And then, once feeling better and close to the halfway point, I must have pulled something in my leg. So then I was dragging my leg around the rest of the hike. So that's pretty fun.
A little bit past the halfway mark, we stopped at this randomly placed Buddhist temple thing (at least I think it was Buddhist. I could be wrong). There we had some hot tea and life was good again. The rest of the tour was mostly downhill, which made dragging my useless leg around so much easier.
But even though physically it was a terrible time (and the fall count made it to 3), it was still absolutely beautiful and I felt like I was in Narnia (hence the title of this post). Here are some of the amazing pictures.
