Paris: Day 1

We arrived in Paris around 6 last night, Friday the 24. Not too much sightseeing, as we were exhausted from the journey in which the drive from the airport to the city was longer than the actually plane ride. Today, however, was sightseeing central. We began at the Moulin Rouge, where I eagerly awaited to be serenaded by Ewan McGregor (a la the movie), only to be slightly disappointed (not that I actually expected to see him pop out or anything). It was actually one of the coolest and oddest places I've ever seen, but then again it is Paris.

After the Moulin Rouge, we made our way to the Arc de Triomphe. Told it was only 6 euros to go to the top? I think that is a splurge I have to make.

After that, we went down the Avenue des Champs-Élysées, the road with all the big brand name shops. We continued down this road for a while, and then made our way over to le Jardin des Tuileries, where Marie Antoinnette strolled while imprisoned. There really is nothing except some hedges and a fountain, but the history makes it extremely cool.

Next stop: Le Louvre. Though we didn't go inside, as there probably needs to be a full day and we don't have that kind of time, those random pyramids were pretty cool. And the building itself is so big.

After Le Louvre, it was off to the Bastille. The prison is no longer there, as those who stormed it literally tore it down brick by brick with their own hands, the monument pays homage to this bloody event. Before the monument are just some sights along the way.

After Bastille, it was time for the second main event for the day: Notre-Dame de Paris. Before the cathedral, it was street performer time. And they played the very song that made up the score for Midnight in Paris. I almost cried tears of joy and could not stop smiling. As for the cathedral itself, there are no words for its majesty.

Those other monuments were just warm-up acts for the real prize of the day: seeing the Tour Eiffel. I never realized how much I wanted to see this beautiful work of art until five minutes before we arrived.... but, boy, is it worth seeing! It is literally one of the most beautiful sights I have ever seen, and probably the most beautiful man-made structure. Haven't made it up it yet, but we are sure to try in the coming days! Now here are a bunch of unobstructed images of the Eiffel Tower.

Well, there you have it, day one of Paris. And definitely my most favorite city. I am obsessed and will never make fun of it again. I was such a hater before, but not anymore. You can't help falling in love with this town.
