Our second day in Como was truly an eventful one. We woke up bright and early to get ferry tickets in order to make the way over to Bellagio (not the Vegas one). The ferry ride took about two hours from Point A to Point B in the rain and wind, but the views that came of it were nothing short of spectacular. And we even caught a glimpse of George Clooney's Italian villa, except it is very hard to tell in the pictures. But I saw it, I promise. And no, I am not a creep. I'm just a cinephile who gets way too excited by the prospect of being in an area that a major movie star has been in.
After the boat cruise we arrived in Bellagio. This town, known as the pearl of the lake, is nothing short of breathtaking. We explored up and down the hills and found this lovely little docking area where we just sat for a while. Met a new friend there. And by friend, I mean some random duck who came really close to where we were lounging. All I wanted to do was sit back and read (if I had my Nook with me). Probably The Hunger Games if I'm being completely honest. Still not completely over my obsession with that one yet.
The landscape around the town was stunning. However, I could not help but feeling as if, taking away all the boats and houses and villas, it would look a lot like the surroundings of Jurassic Park. But that was probably just me. Even with that, I fell absolutely in love.
Just in time to escape a tremendous downpour, we got on a ferry to Lenno, just a few towns over from Bellagio. Here, we went on a hike to a villa (which we would have to pay to see, so we just walked up to the gate, which was fine). I swear, the view from the path looked like a scene from Lost. I half expected to see the smoke monster of evil Locke coming to get me around every corner. Palm trees and mountains and a faux beach. Nothing better.
After we got back to Como from our town-hopping across the lake, we attempted to find us some dinner. Pretty much everywhere looked empty, not usually a great sign, and I demanded we must go somewhere with pasta. I refused to leave Italy without having some type of pasta dish. Finally, we got ushered into this little bar and restaurant (is ushering in a thing here? Americans do not do that). Finally, after a day and half in Italy, it was time to eat some pasta. Oh lasagna, how I have missed thee. And I stole some penne and salmon from my friend Cecilia's plate. Technically it wasn't stealing since she let me, but that doesn't matter. So delicious and warm after our rain and wind filled day. Paired nicely with our red wine, this meal basically symbolized an Italian meal to me. Also, only eight euros for a whopping portion of lasagna?! Sweet deal! And with our check came limoncello, a lemon liquor on the house. Italians are so giving and I love them.
Spirits high and stomach's full, we embarked back to our hotel for the final night in Como and to rest up for a journey filled Easter Sunday to Lugano, another lake city, but this one in Switzerland instead of Italy. Stay tuned.
