So this really has nothing to do with Switzerland, so if you're here for only that, walk away from your computer. I want to write a mini movie review.
This week was the opening of The Hunger Games. Of course, I didn't imagine I'd be able to see it before people from the US. Boy, was I wrong. I saw it Tuesday, dubbed in French. Good thing I had just reread it for the third time, so I could actually understand what was going on. Then on Thursday, we went for a second time in English.
The movie was amazing. Doesn't pack the same punch as the book, but still emotional and raw and violent and sad and exciting. One of the best book adaptations I have ever seen, which may or may not have something to do with Suzanne Collins helping with the screenplay. Jennifer Lawrence was the perfect Katniss. Tough and strong, and also naive and vulnerable when needed. No other actress in Hollywood would be able to pull of that character as well. Josh Hutcherson also encapsulated Peeta's charm and sensitivity effortlessly. Which is good, because he is my favorite character of the book. Lenny Kravitz, Woody Harrelson, and Elizabeth Banks all pulled off their supporting roles with surprising skill and grace. All in all, the film was violent and tough when called for, but tender as well. This is the beginning of a beautiful franchise.
I was so lucky to have been able to see the movie twice already, and cannot wait for the DVD. Get ready people, you may be subjected to me making you watch it.
